Everything Old is New Again... Again

When we got a call from the new owners of this house, we were a bit surprised. The previous owners had hired us just a few years earlier to help them with a renovation of the kitchen and to transform their ground floor small studio apartment into a yoga room with a spa-like bath. The new owners asked us to, essentially, start from scratch and "gut" the house. We were happy to oblige! The former Arts and Crafts style interior was updated into a more simple, sleek modern feeling throughout, but still retains some of the character that was original to this 1914 Noe Valley house. An addition at the rear of the house included expanding the small studio apartment at the yard level, creating a master bedroom suite at the 2nd floor with a rich, marble-lined master bath and opening up the 3rd floor for a large, living, dining and kitchen space. The big southern views, formerly unseen due to a steep roof, were revealed with the addition of a deck along the living room wall with a large bi-fold door allowing the linking of the inside to the outdoors. A custom-designed steel guardrail on the stair is modern, yet evocative of the house's Arts and Crafts roots.
